Faster Than Finding Your Keys
Pick a duration, write a sentence describing your plans, and tap Create. You'll see exactly when you're due back and who will hear about it if you're not.
Heading out?
How long will you be gone?
What will you be doing?
Check in by:
Or we’ll notify:
- A quick loop or a long weekend. One tap for the typical times. Custom handles everything from 15 minutes to 7 days.
- No math at the trailhead. You see exactly when you're due back before you commit to it.
- Write it for whoever's looking. Your note is what your contacts read if you're late. Put in the route, where you parked, and what you're driving.
- Know who's got your back. Your contacts are on screen before you tap
Create. You'll know exactly who we'll contact if you miss your check-in.
One trip, one deadline.
Only one trip can be open at a time, so your contacts never have to guess which one you're on. Check in, then start the next.
You'll know before you go.
Contacts have to accept your invitation before they can be alerted. If none have, the form says so up front and links to the fix. You find out now, not after a missed deadline.
See Red Before They Do
The card shows how much time you have left and gives you two buttons. Safe and sound? Check in. Running long? Extend. Nobody hears a thing unless you actually miss your deadline.

What we’ll say:
- Extend as often as you need. Each tap adds an hour. No cap, no math.
- Extending is quiet. Your contacts don't hear about it. Running late isn't an emergency.
- Your reminder resets too. You still get a heads-up 15 minutes before the new deadline.

Deadline
Back on time?
The card says Welcome back and confirms nobody was alerted.
Back Late?
It tells you plainly that your contacts have already heard from us, so you know to let them know you're safe.
Done it before? Do it again.
Every trip you start stays on your list: searchable, repeatable, and marked with whether anyone had to be called. Your regular loop becomes a one-tap start. Last summer's trip is still there when you want to do it again.
Your trips
These are the trips that you’ve scheduled.
You're out with time to spare. Nobody's heard a thing.
Your deadline passed and your contacts have been told. Check in as soon as you can.
Back on time. Nobody heard from us. Most trips look like this.
Back, but late. Your contacts got the alert, so it's worth a call to say you're fine.
- Find any trip. Search any word from your description. One more reason to write a good one.
- Repeat in one tap. Same note, same length, ready to go.
- Yours alone. Your contacts never see your list. They only hear from us about a missed check-in.
The Honest List
Rangerly keeps trips simple on purpose. Here's what that leaves out, so you find out now and not at the trailhead.
One open trip at a time
There is no way to run two. Close the current one before starting another.
A started trip cannot be edited
You can extend it, as many times as you like. You cannot change the note, shorten the deadline, or move it earlier. If what you typed is wrong, check in to close the trip and start another — closing a trip minutes after starting it alerts nobody.
Check in before you delete
You can't delete a trip that's still open. Deleting cleans up your history. It isn't a way to cancel a deadline.
Search reads descriptions, not dates
There is no date filter and no sort other than newest departure first. A year of trips is a year of scrolling unless there is a word in the one you want.
No location, ever
Nothing about a trip reads your position, before, during or after. What your contacts receive is the sentence you typed, which is exactly as much or as little as you chose to say.
No confirmed contacts, no alerts
The trip still runs, but nobody gets told if you miss it. You'll be warned before and during. A trip with no safety net is still a record of where you went and is a way that people test our system during their free trial.
New trips need a trial or subscription
The free trial is fully featured, so nothing's held back. If your trial or subscription ends, your trip history stays and you can still read all of it. You just can't start new trips until you subscribe.
Trip Questions
Fifteen minutes to seven days. Below fifteen minutes there is no room for the reminder we send before your deadline; above seven days a mistyped duration would create a trip that effectively never comes due. Anything outside the range is refused with a message saying so, rather than quietly rounded.
Extensions are not capped. Each one adds an hour, as many times as you need—there is no number to mistype, and refusing one would strand somebody who is still out and still checking in.
No. One open trip at a time, whether you start it in the app or by text. Create is refused while a trip is still open and tells you why.
It is a deliberate limit rather than a missing feature. A trip is a deadline with one note attached to it, and two overlapping deadlines would mean your emergency contacts receiving two sentences and having to work out which one they were being asked to act on.
Only by extending it. There is no edit screen anywhere in Rangerly: once a trip is running, the note and the original duration are fixed, and the one thing you can move is the deadline, an hour at a time.
If what you typed is wrong, the fix is to close the trip and start another. Checking in minutes after starting a trip alerts nobody, so the correction costs you two taps and tells your contacts nothing.
You have a trip that's still open. You can't delete a trip your contacts are counting on, and you can only have one trip open at a time. Check in, and both come back.
No. An email or a text that has already reached your emergency contacts has reached them, and deleting the trip neither unsends it nor tells them anything new. The trip comes off your list; the conversation it started is yours to finish.
Nothing, unless you miss a check-in. Then, within about five minutes of your deadline, they get an email and a text with when you left, when you were due back, your trip note, and anything in your profile. They never see your trip list or any trip that ended normally.
Yes—text GO, a duration and a note to Rangerly’s number and you get the same trip, on the same list, with the same deadline. EXTEND and SAFE then do what Extend Trip and Check In do on the card.
No. Unlimited trips, unlimited check-ins and unlimited extensions on the $5/month plan—there is no per-trip charge, no monthly allowance and nothing that runs out. The list keeps all of them.
